Polvo – In Prism

Polvo – In Prism

I’m pretty sure the first time I heard Polvo mentioned was one night back in high school. Me and the crew were walking aimlessly around some park in Hoboken, all stoned and losing, when we met a group of kids we knew from somewhere. We exchanged pleasantries and they said they had just got out of the Polvo show at Maxwell’s. It was awesome they said. We stood and stared bloodshotedly. I think I managed a “Yeahh?”.

So that was a good story. And for years after I have half paid attention to what was written about Polvo, then recently (September is still recent) they came out with this new album, “In Prism”. I decided to buy it online cuz I am a lazy shut-in and I really wanted to check it out.

So yeah it sucks. They suck. Real bad like. They are a mixture of King Crimson and Phish with a side of college indie bullshit. That would be a ringing accolade if you were a douchebag. So, I guess if you are a douchebag pick this up. It really is no good. It is so bad I’m angry about it.

Oh, and ordering MP3 versions of albums ain’t cool either. It’s like getting McDonalds. It was convenient but I felt like shit after. Check the PDF they sent with the cat holding the CD insert art. He’s saying “This is what you would have had if you’d just gotten up and went to the record store yourself.”

But I don’t care. Cuz Polvo sucks and so does their album art.

Yeah?

I can’t help but agree with the author, and I’m a fan of some noisy, annoying bands. So they take away melody, take away song structure, take away an in-tune bass and label it experimental? Sounds like slapping together all their incomplete ideas into one song with used bandaids. Only my pretentious friends would find this listenable.
